Q: So, you're testing my DNA?

A: Yes. Using modern technology we test your DNA for specific genes. Depending on the test, these genes are corrolated with different traits, aptitudes, and risk factors.

Q: How do tests work?

A: After you place an order, XYGene will mail you a personal swab kit. Swab the insides of your cheek, return your personal swab kit in your pre-paid postal envelope, and we will mail you your results in a few weeks.

Q: That's it? No blood or anything scary?

A: That's it. Nothing more than rubbing a swab on the inside of your cheek.

Q: How accurate are your tests?

A: Our testing methods ensure greater than 99.98% accuracy given a valid sample. All samples are retested to eliminate the possibility of false positives and ensure the greatest possible accuracy.

Q: Do your genetic tests diagnose any diseases or medical conditions?

A: No. While certain genes may corrolate with certain traits or risk factors, our tests are for informational purposes only and should not be relied upon to make any medical decisions. Please consult a medical professional regarding medical needs. More details are in our Terms of Service.

Q: May I buy a test for somebody else?

A: Our tests make great gifts. However, you must be legally permitted to provide the sample for testing. If you indicate that your purchase is a test for someone else, we will mail you a consent form with your kit.

Q: Are your tests safe and private?

A: Yes. Effectively, we ask nothing from you more threatening than your toothbrush (less, actually). Further, we only test for the specific genes you request, not your entire DNA genome, so the only information we know is what you know: your test results. Of course, we take great pains to keep even the limited and relatively benign data from our tests absolutely secure and private.
